Randall Lake

Self Portrait

Painted in 1978 at the University of Utah.

Painted colorfully and simply.

Randall Lake born in1947.

Randall Bruce Lake, portraitist and figure painter who also paints still-life and landscape from his studio in an old building in Salt Lake City, and at a studio in a stone house in Spring City, Utah. A graduate of the University of Utah (M.F.A., 1977).

Influences of Manet.

Randall approached Steven Heward, asking if he was willing to trade any one of his paintings for one of Steve's class drawings. Steve agreed and went to Randall's studio and chose Randall's self portrait still in progress on his easel.

Self Portrait

I love the simplistic way he has treated the fabric and how well the face reads.  I have always seen influences of Manet in this portrait.
